Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) is a noninvasive procedure approved for the treatment of Major Depressive Disorder, particularly in individuals who have not found relief through traditional therapies like medication or psychotherapy. While the precise cause of depression remains unclear, many experts agree that it often involves an imbalance in neurotransmitters—chemical messengers that help brain cells communicate effectively.
During a TMS session, a small electromagnetic coil is gently placed near the patient’s forehead, directly against the scalp. This coil emits targeted magnetic pulses that stimulate specific areas of the brain known to have decreased activity in people suffering from depression. The goal of Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation is to rebalance neural activity and improve mood regulation.
Many patients begin to notice positive changes within four weeks, while friends and family often observe improvements within just 1–2 weeks of treatment. If you’re looking for “TMS Around Me”, our clinic proudly offers compassionate and effective care tailored to your needs. We specialize in TMS St Lucie County and TMS Martin County, ensuring residents in these areas have access to cutting-edge, noninvasive treatment close to home.

RCMHC conducts TMS Therapy with Neurostar Advanced Therapy. With over one million treatments performed, treatment is easy:
Transcranial magnetic stimulation operates using a targeted magnetic field, comparable to what’s used in magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). While awake, the area of the patient’s brain (that typically shows low activity for depressed people), is stimulated using NeuroStar TMS Therapy.
NeuroStar uses transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) to target key areas of the brain that are underactive in people with depression. It is not ECT (electroconvulsive therapy).
The leading scientific theory suggests depression is caused by neurotransmitter imbalances.
During a session, a magnet like that in an MRI is used to stimulate nerve cells controlling mood.
Treatment features:
•In-office sessions
•No downtime
•Patient remains awake
•No memory or sleep side effects
•Covered by most insurance
Before treatment:
you’ll recline comfortably in the chair and a curved magnetic coil will be placed in contact with your head
During treatment:
NeuroStar delivers magnetic stimulation to target areas of the brain. Expect to hear a clicking sound and a tingling, or tapping sensation.
After treatment:
Normal activities of the day can be resumed right away, and because there are memory or alertness side-effects you can drive yourself here and back for each treatment session.
NeuroStar TMS Therapy typically takes 19-37 minutes and is performed 5 days a week for around 4-6 weeks.
1. What is Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation?
TMS is a noninvasive procedure using magnetic fields to stimulate brain cells, improving depression symptoms.
2. How does TMS work?
It delivers magnetic pulses to brain regions.
3. How long is TMS treatment?
Each session is 19–37 minutes daily over 4–6 weeks.
4. Is TMS covered by insurance?
Yes, most commercial and Medicare plans cover TMS.
5. Is TMS a good alternative to antidepressants?
Yes. It doesn’t have systemic side effects like weight gain or nausea. Side effects include mild headaches or scalp discomfort.
6. Is TMS similar to magnet-based alternative therapies?
No. TMS uses high-intensity, targeted pulses unlike static magnets used in alternative therapies.
7. Does it Hurt?
While there may be some minor discomfort at the treatment site (where the device touches your head), it generally subsides within the first week of treatment. There is no sedation, or impact on your alertness. You can read, watch TV, or talk with your treatment coordinator during your session, and you can drive home immediately after treatment.
